BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On April 1, 2009, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center hosted its Doctors’ Day 2009 celebration, where OSF physicians were recognized for their service to the Medical Center’s staff, patients and families.

The 2009 Magnet Doctor of the Year was awarded to Jerry Antonini, MD, a hospitalist at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Antonini was nominated by clinical staff based on criteria compatible with the Magnet Recognition Program, of which the hospital is designated.

Dr. Antonini met and exceeded the criteria: a physician who creates a sense of mutual respect among all disciplines resulting in positive interdisciplinary relationships; who recognizes the value of hospital staff and uses open, two-way communication; who encourages teamwork and professionalism in practice; and who models the Mission of OSF by providing excellence in service to patients, families and staff.

The medical center also gave service awards to physicians who scored in the 95th percentile or above in patient satisfaction for all four quarters in the 2008 fiscal year, according to Press,Ganey Associates. They are: Edward Kolb, MD, Richard Wellman, MD, Jay-James Miller, MD, Jennifer Dameron, MD, Lisa Emm, MD, Kaye Toohill, MD, Kathy Bohn, MD, and Sue Svientek, MD.

Winners of the hospital-based physician awards included Ajeet Gordhan, MD, outstanding radiologist; Bruce Chandler, MD, and Marc Young, DO, outstanding anesthesiologists; and Louis Boelen, MD, outstanding pathologist.

More than 50 physicians attended the luncheon event, which was held in the Business and Conference Center at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
